What is the Chao Pinhole Surgical Technique?

Developed and patented by Dr. John Chao, the Chao Pinhole Surgical Technique is a minimally invasive procedure designed to treat receding gums. This innovative approach offers a safe and proven alternative for addressing gum recession, providing long-term benefits without the need for traditional grafting methods.

Traditional gum grafting involves taking soft tissue, typically from the roof of your mouth, and transplanting it to the affected area. Alternatively, grafts can be sourced from a tissue bank. The process requires making an incision at the recipient site, temporarily moving the existing gum tissue, and securing the graft with sutures once it’s positioned correctly.

Unlike traditional methods, pinhole gum therapy requires no scalpels or stitches. Dr. Hawkins uses a needle to create small entry points in the gum tissue, inserting specialized instruments to gently loosen and reposition the receded gums. Resorbable collagen strips are then placed to stabilize the gums and encourage new tissue growth. The procedure concludes with carefully guiding the gums into a healthier position, restoring a natural gum line.

What are the advantages of pinhole gum therapy?

This cutting-edge treatment comes with some great benefits, like more comfort and less pain, swelling, and bleeding compared to traditional gum surgery. While typical gum surgeries often need multiple visits and can only treat small areas at a time, Pinhole Gum Therapy can address several spots in just one session. Dr. Hawkins can even treat your whole mouth in one appointment, making the process quicker and much more convenient for you.

For those with advanced gum concerns, LANAP / gum disease treatment may also be considered as a complementary or alternative approach.

Am I a candidate for Pinhole gum therapy?

If you’re dealing with receding gums, or gingival recession, Pinhole Gum Therapy could be a great option for you. The decision depends mainly on your overall health and the condition of your gums, which will be carefully evaluated during your consultation.

This procedure is perfect for those aiming to enhance their smile’s appearance. However, if you’re dealing with active gum disease, it’s essential to address that condition first before proceeding with Pinhole Gum Therapy.

Smoking can influence your treatment eligibility, so if you smoke, you might be encouraged to pause this procedure until after quitting. Additionally, having enough healthy gum tissue is crucial for the success of Pinhole Gum Therapy, as it ensures the best possible outcome for restoring your smile.

During your consultation, Dr. Hawkins will conduct a comprehensive oral exam and review your medical history to assess your suitability for the procedure. He will then outline your options and provide a personalized treatment plan tailored to your needs.

Cost of Pinhole Gum Therapy in Midlothian

Pinhole Gum Therapy typically costs around $3,000 per jaw, though the final price depends on various factors that your dentist will evaluate during your consultation. After your assessment, your dentist will let you know if you’re eligible for the procedure and provide a detailed cost breakdown. If you’re concerned about the cost, it’s always wise to contact your insurance provider to see if they offer coverage for this treatment.

When evaluating the cost of Pinhole Gum Therapy, it’s essential to remember the benefits. This minimally invasive technique reduces pain, swelling, and bleeding while often requiring fewer dental visits compared to traditional methods. Investing in this advanced treatment means investing in your comfort and your smile—because you’re worth it.

You will not regret coming to hangout with this kind & compassionate crew! It’s also a bonus that they also take good care of you & your mouth! I have dental anxiety and they eased my racing mind. My first visit with Laura & Dr Collin Muhler was exceptional! Do they know their stuff? Yes. Will they laugh at your oddly timed jokes? Yes (at least the first time). Will they explain everything including all of your procedures and costs? Yes. Will you leave with a fancy lip balm and a cup for your toddler? Yes. I want to “gate-keep” as the kids say, but this practice deserves all 5 stars and for you to know they live/work up to their professional and personal values.

Absolutely love this practice. Everyone is so kind and welcoming. I’m not a huge fan of going to the dentist, but everyone here made it a much better experience! Dr. Muhler is amazing and takes the time to explain everything in much detail and listens to your concerns without making you feel rushed. I have found my new dental home.

I’ve haven’t been to a dentist in over five year. Last week I went through my insurance to find a new place. My old dentist retired, new dentist doesn’t take my insurance. Boy did I hit the jackpot. When I came in I was greeted by a friendly receptionist. Filled out my paperwork then quickly got called back. Kayla my hygienist was so thorough with my cleaning, explained everything to me, and made me feel so comfortable. Dr. Mahler was so nice. He explained everything to me, made sure if I had any questions they were answered. They didn’t make me feel bad that I haven’t been to the dentist in a while. The office is clean and has a nice homely feel to it. So glad I found this place.
