Fill Gaps Caused by 1 to 3 Missing Teeth

A dental bridge offers both functional and cosmetic advantages by filling the gaps left by one to three missing teeth with a replacement tooth. Supported by either dental implants, natural teeth, or a combination of both, it helps restore proper chewing and speaking abilities. As a fixed partial denture, the bridge is securely bonded or cemented in place, eliminating the need for removal during cleaning. It also prevents neighboring teeth from shifting, which can lead to further dental complications.

Long-Lasting Benefits of Dental Bridges

Missing teeth can affect both your confidence and comfort, but a dental bridge is an effective solution that not only restores your smile but also provides long-term benefits for your remaining teeth and overall oral health. Keeping the supporting teeth and gums healthy with regular teeth cleanings helps your bridge last for years. Here’s a summary of the advantages of dental bridges:

Comfort and Stability

The immediate benefit of a dental bridge is the restored natural look and feel of your teeth, allowing you to speak and eat with confidence and comfort. Missing teeth often lead to difficulties with chewing and speaking, but dental bridges offer a durable solution. With proper care, they can last over ten years, providing a stable and pain-free experience.

Tooth Health

Teeth rely on one another for support, and the loss of a tooth can disrupt your bite, causing other teeth to shift out of alignment. A dental bridge helps prevent this by keeping your teeth in place, reducing the risk of decay, periodontal disease, jaw pain, and TMJ disorder due to misaligned teeth. If a supporting tooth has deep decay, a root canal may be recommended before placing the bridge.

Bone Health

When teeth are missing, bone loss can occur, weakening the jaw structure over time. By stabilizing the surrounding teeth with a dental bridge, you can slow down the rate of bone loss, helping to maintain the health and integrity of your jawbones and preserving your overall dental function.

The Cost of a Dental Bridge in Midlothian

The cost of a dental bridge can vary depending on a variety of factors, including the type of bridge and the individual needs of the patient. For those with typical insurance coverage, a dental bridge generally costs between $800 to $1,200 or more. Without insurance, the price can range from $2,000 to $3,000, or even higher, depending on specific requirements.

Factors Affecting the Cost of a Dental Bridge:
  • Type of Bridge and Material: The material used (e.g., porcelain, ceramic, or metal) and the type of bridge (traditional, cantilever, or Maryland) can impact the price.
  • Number of Teeth Missing: The more teeth that need replacing, the more complex and expensive the bridge may be.
  • Procedure Complexity: The location and difficulty of the procedure, such as whether additional work is required for the supporting teeth or implants, can increase costs.
  • Condition of Adjacent Teeth: If the teeth next to the gap require additional treatment or preparation, the price may be higher.
  • Supplies and Equipment: Additional tools, materials, or diagnostic tests may also factor into the overall cost.

Please note that no dental office can provide an exact price over the phone. It’s important to schedule an appointment for a consultation and exam, allowing the dentist to assess your unique situation and provide a detailed quote. If you have dental insurance, we can assist with obtaining a pre-authorization or estimate for your insurance provider, ensuring you understand your out-of-pocket expenses before moving forward with treatment.

Frequently Asked Questions

A dental bridge is a prosthetic device that replaces missing teeth by bridging the gap with artificial teeth. It is often supported by neighboring teeth that may first need a dental crown, providing a stable, long-term solution to tooth loss and restoring both appearance and functionality.

The installation of a dental bridge involves two main steps: first, the surrounding teeth or dental implants are prepared to serve as supports. Then, an artificial tooth is placed between them, filling the space left by the missing tooth or teeth. The bridge is fixed securely, ensuring proper alignment and comfort.

A well-maintained dental bridge can last anywhere from 10 to 15 years or longer. Its longevity largely depends on factors like oral hygiene, regular dental visits, and the overall health of the surrounding teeth and gums.

Caring for a dental bridge is similar to caring for natural teeth. It involves regular brushing, flossing, and possibly using special tools like floss threaders to clean around the bridge. Routine dental check-ups are necessary to ensure the bridge remains in good condition and does not develop any issues.

The procedure for a dental bridge is not painful. A local anesthetic is applied to numb the area, ensuring you remain comfortable during the procedure. Some mild discomfort may be experienced afterward, but this is typically temporary and can be managed with over-the-counter pain relief.

The dental bridge process generally requires two or three visits. During the first visit, your dentist will prepare the teeth or implants and take impressions. The second visit is for placing the permanent bridge, which may take a few weeks to fabricate. Each visit typically lasts an hour or so, depending on the procedure’s complexity.

You will not regret coming to hangout with this kind & compassionate crew! It’s also a bonus that they also take good care of you & your mouth! I have dental anxiety and they eased my racing mind. My first visit with Laura & Dr Collin Muhler was exceptional! Do they know their stuff? Yes. Will they laugh at your oddly timed jokes? Yes (at least the first time). Will they explain everything including all of your procedures and costs? Yes. Will you leave with a fancy lip balm and a cup for your toddler? Yes. I want to “gate-keep” as the kids say, but this practice deserves all 5 stars and for you to know they live/work up to their professional and personal values.

Absolutely love this practice. Everyone is so kind and welcoming. I’m not a huge fan of going to the dentist, but everyone here made it a much better experience! Dr. Muhler is amazing and takes the time to explain everything in much detail and listens to your concerns without making you feel rushed. I have found my new dental home.

I’ve haven’t been to a dentist in over five year. Last week I went through my insurance to find a new place. My old dentist retired, new dentist doesn’t take my insurance. Boy did I hit the jackpot. When I came in I was greeted by a friendly receptionist. Filled out my paperwork then quickly got called back. Kayla my hygienist was so thorough with my cleaning, explained everything to me, and made me feel so comfortable. Dr. Mahler was so nice. He explained everything to me, made sure if I had any questions they were answered. They didn’t make me feel bad that I haven’t been to the dentist in a while. The office is clean and has a nice homely feel to it. So glad I found this place.
