If you need some dental work to strengthen, improve, build up or even save the teeth you started out with–whether it’s one small filling or a full-mouth rehab–it’s good to know you’ve got a plethora of restorative dentistry options. At Hawkins Family Dentistry, we’ve got your back (and your front and back teeth). Read on for more about all the possibilities!
We are a mercury-free practice and have been for our over ten-year history. Composite restorations are all we offer–bonded for strength, color matched for esthetics, and free from mercury. It’s the wave of the future and of the now.
CEREC® crowns are made in a single visit—expertly designed, precisely milled, and beautiful—with no temporary required. It’s how we’ve done it since 2013 without looking back. Traditional crowns are still available for those who love to wait.
Essentially a deep filling of the root, they’ve come a long way in terms of ease, efficiency and predictability. If you were in pain, you’ll typically feel immediate relief with lasting results, although root canal treated teeth should be periodically monitored with x-rays to evaluate for possible follow up treatment. We do root canals but will sometimes refer you to an endodontist—whatever will give you the best result.
No one wants a tooth extracted, so we’re going to make sure you have the best experience possible should it come to that. Though it’s a last resort in many cases, extracting your tooth may be needed when other options aren’t viable. However, saving your natural tooth is always our preferred option when achievable.
Don’t cross your…ok, ok. When you do come to them, strong and metal-free zirconia bridges can be a great replacement for a missing tooth. Though implants are considered the gold standard, bridges are permanently fixed and may be best in circumstances where an implant isn’t feasible.
Truly the best option for tooth replacement, we work with outstanding oral surgeons and periodontists who place your implant. After integration has occurred, we will restore your implant with a custom-fabricated crown. No attachment to adjacent teeth and nothing to decay—an implant is the closest thing we have to growing your own replacement tooth.
There’s no shame in having a denture at HFD. Life happens and we play the cards we are dealt. Whether partial or complete, dentures are certainly cost-effective tooth replacements and can be made very esthetic. We can also remake them or reline them if yours are getting worn or excessively loose. Functionality is always limited as compared to implant/bridge options however, so sometimes they are a temporary path to eventual implants.
“Dr. Alexander Hawkins Family Practice has been my dentist since he began his practice here in Midlothian. He’s a great guy and very gentle and considerate when doing his work. I have had fillings and several crowns done. All of his staff are also gentle and considerate. I will never go anywhere else for cleanings. The office itself is clean and well maintained. The staff keeps up on all the latest dental procedures. One day crowns are the best! I have lived in several different places and had 8 different dentists, I love this practice because the whole staff is consistently good and would hate to ever have to change dentists again.”
